Why is Process Art good for kids?
Process art is all about doing and making without necessarily having a finished product in mind. This method of teaching/making allows for so many rich learning opportunities--how to handle frustration, how to work with a mistake, how to problem solve, how to collaborate--just to name a few. This approach is not only child-driven, but it is also materials driven in that the studio environment and the materials are just as influential as the instructor and the artist. Our newly reorganized studio space will be stocked with a thoughtfully chosen array of materials intended to spark creative exploration.
What are the logistics?
- This will operate like an open-studio so it isn't a recurring class with a specific curriculum, aside from a general theme such as color exploration, book making, etc.
- We have scheduled sessions on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month running from June through September. We will be adding fall/winter dates as well.
- The 2nd Saturday will be a morning session. The 4th Saturday will be an afternoon session.
- Each session is two hours long.
- You do not have to arrive right at the beginning. It is okay to drop in, though we would recommend allowing your child about 30 minutes to create something.
- Adults are not required to stay with their child, but they are welcome to stay and create if they'd like.
Here is the link for sign up and specific dates/times. Our first session is slated for June 8...coming up soon!!
