New Beginnings

Greetings friends old and new!  I am starting this as a dedicated place for you to keep up to date with an exciting new collaboration between myself and Center Ground Studios in the heart of Mount Horeb. While John and Heidi are toiling away (probably as we speak!) revamping the studio space, I get the job of telling you the story of this new adventure.  We're so excited to share it with you!
John and I circa 1991 or 92

For those who know me, I will spare you all the details, but for those who don't...here is the short version.  I am Laura Gruetzmacher. John's older sister.  My husband Joe and I have two little ones...Jack, age 5 and Gracie, age 3.  I am an artist and an art teacher with degrees in Fine Art from UW-Oshkosh. Many know me locally as "Mrs. G." This is my eighth year teaching Mount Horeb's youngest artists, grades kindergarten through second grade.  It's truly been an honor to work and live in this community.   The genuine support for local artists and entrepreneurs is amazing.

Heartwork has been a vision of mine for several years. It started as something I would mull over while laying in bed wondering all the things that moms of young children wonder about. Paramount for me was the wonder, "Will I ever return to my own art practice and what will this look like now?" As much as I want to hope and dream, I knew I couldn't turn back the clock to my college years when I thought nothing of spending six hours a day doing nothing but making art.  Once I let this ship sail, I landed on a more realistic wonder. "How can I meld everything I've learned as a teaching artist into a community outreach of some sort and possibly even resembles a business model.  Heidi, John, and I have talked about it on and off over the years, and they've both been super encouraging as I attempt to figure this all out and summon the courage to dip my toes in.  Steadily, we realized this vision of mine might take on new light if we melded it into the framework of what John and Heidi have already created at Center Ground Studios.  So here we are.  It has been a true pleasure to watch John and Heidi's life and business grow and flourish into such a lovely and vital creative hub in our little village.  So to now have the opportunity to plug myself into it is pretty exciting to say the least.  It's still taking shape, but the beauty and the excitement definitely lie in the unfolding.  (And don't worry, John still gets to wear his crown.)

Stay tuned for lots more to come.  In the mean time go here for info on our new classes.
